"Probably the most stunning yoga studio in the Boston/Cambridge area. Very cozy aesthetic and vibe. Amazing teachers--Ame, Brenna, and Joanna."
"The only place that's ever gotten me to workout on a regular basis. I love Joanna's class. She comes and corrects my form, which makes me feel like I'm actually "learning" yoga, rather than just going through the motions."
“If I could combine all of my favorite pieces of every yoga studio I've ever been to and stitch them all together to make that one perfect place, it would be North End Yoga. I'll try to touch on each individual aspect of this studio, but really it is the way it all comes together that makes it so special.
First, I have never been to a studio that embraces, and immerses itself in, its surroundings like NEY. From my first browse through the website, I was charmed by the Italian nod, but I wasn't sure how that theme would play out in person. Well, step inside the studio, through the huge carved wood doors, and you'll see they've worked the exposed brick, narrow hallways, and hardwood floors that are staples in most North End apartments into a cozy, clean, and stylish yoga studio. It actually feels like you've climbed three flights of stairs and entered someone's home, complete with fluffy towels (yes, real towels, not paper towels or hand dryers) and an actual tub/shower with embroidered damask curtain in the bathroom. It's as if NEY fulfilled a lifelong dream of turning a North End home into a yoga studio and every student is a welcome guest. The space feels like it was always meant to look this way.
I love the size of the classes here. Not too big, not too small. For me, I need a space where I can blend in when I want but also feel comfortable to ask questions when I need more information about a pose. The class size in the larger room feels like it averages around 30 people and, I swear, sometimes it feels like the instructor is able to check in with each and every person through the class. Instructors weave in and out of the rows, adjusting people, helping them go deeper in a pose, and giving queues they know we need based on what they see. I so appreciate this interaction! Thank you to the NEY teachers (all of them, because every one of them does this) for getting involved and making each class a personal experience.
Teachers, staff, and students are sincere, friendly, and approachable here. I've been in other studios where an instructor will say something about laughing through a pose, but nobody will actually laugh. Or, far worse, they'll ohm but nobody will ohm with them. Here, people laugh! And they ohm! And they look at you like, we're all in this together. So, the OMG-I-can't-possibly-get-my-body-to-do-that poses here somehow feel more attainable.
From big to small, this studio nails every detail you'd want. I'm grateful to NEY for identifying all of the things that people love about a yoga studio and thoughtfully combining them into one place.”
“This studio is absolutely AMAZING! There is such diversity and versatility with every class and teacher at North End Yoga. My first experience here was taking a Pilates Fusion class by Jenn Phelan which was incredible! She is so motivating and truly cares about each person that comes into her class. I've also taken her Mat Pilates and Pilates Barre classes and they are all awesome. Her classes are challenging and so rewarding. You will feel sore the next day, knowing that you definitely got your money's worth by taking her class. I took a class with Brenna tonight and it was exactly what I needed. The flow was great and she was such a great instructor. I felt like my self awareness was improved dramatically after taking her class. She was awesome! I took Ginny's Pilates class this weekend and loved it as well! She really mixed things up to make the class interesting and fun. There was a lot of core work in that particular class which I was really excited about. I also took Shuli's yoga class and it was both challenging and invigorating. Everyone in the room was sweating and it was a great way to end the day.
All of the instructors are all so incredible with teaching and so inspiring. They all do a great job with making everyone feel accepted and welcomed in their class. This studio is definitely one to check out if you are looking for a great studio in Boston. I have yet to come across an instructor/class at this studio that hasn't impressed me. It's an amazing place with amazing people. It's a nice little oasis tucked in the North End. Definitely recommend this studio for anyone--you can't go wrong with any of the classes!”
