MASSAGE STYLES
Swedish: This style is the most commonly offered and best-known type of massage. If it’s your first massage, Swedish is the perfect place to start. This style uses firm but gently pressure to promote relaxation and to promote other health benefits. A series of Swedish massages can prep your muscles for the progression into a more deep tissue massage.
Deep Tissue/Sports: While deep tissue massage and sports massage differ, they are commonly used in conjunction with one another to achieve optimal results. Deep tissue massage focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. Pressure is deeper and slower. Sports massage can be incorporated through stretching or by prepping the muscle for deeper work through full compression techniques.
Prenatal: Prenatal massage shares many of the goals of regular massage. However, it is tailored specifically to the needs of pregnant women and their changing bodies. A firm pressure is acceptable, but deeper work is not normally used and specific pressure points are avoided. A side lying position is used in this type of massage.
Hot Stone: Hot stone massage is a specialty massage that uses smooth, heated stones. The heat is both deeply relaxing and helps tight muscles release. This massage is great for the colder fall and winter months or even as an introduction to massage therapy.
Aromatherapy: Aromatherapy massage uses highly concentrated plant oils called essential oils added to the base massage oil. When you inhale essential oil molecules or they are absorbed into the skin, messages are transmitted to the brain affecting heart rate, stress levels, blood pressure, breathing, digestions and the immune system. A smell test will determine the best oil for you.
